We have decided to edit this picture into black and white to create a sense of simplicity as the artist is still new to the music industry.
This is the first draft of our digipak. We are happy with the image, editing of the colour and the 'HB' in the bottom left. We are slightly unsure on the size of the writing in the top right and also on the font so more discussion will need to be arranged.
The front cover shows a skyline picture of an affluent city. We chose this picture as being the view from the artist's eyes. By having this establishing shot helps to show the artist's audience that he knows he is better than his peers and that he is looking down on them because he has already made it 'to the top'. However, on the back of the CD cover there is another skyline picture but this time of a less affluent housing estate. We wanted all three of our media products to represent turning tables in life and making the way up the 'stardom ladder'. We felt the contrast of the rich city against the poor estate was the perfect choice for our CD cover in explaining our motives. The contrast has also been used to show the aspirations of the artist (the front cover showing the 'high life' and where the artist one day hopes to be and the back cover showing the present location and also the background of the artist).
By using visual representation of the artists hopes and dreams, a link is created between the artist and his audience. This link is the understanding of the audience towards the artists aspirations. Once a connection is made between artist and audience, the audience are more likely to buy the records of the artists, hence taking him closer to where he wants to be - living in a wealthy city full of life and opportunities.
Also, by not including an image of the artist (HB), or any image related to typical rap conventions, the message is conveyed (Richard Dyer 1985) through mystery.
